My Baby Compass includes checklists to identify milestones, which are skills, behaviors and physical developments that commonly occur in certain age ranges.
There is a separate checklists for each age group, which identifies the following milestones.
- Baby Talks (Speech)
- Baby Hears (Hearing)

Baby Talks Checklist
Age 10 to 12 Months – Check at 12 Months

|Makes sounds while he is playing with toys|
|Uses double consonant combinations (e.g. “ma mee,” “wa wa,” “pa pa”)|
|Makes sounds when he hears music|
|Makes sounds to his own reflection in a mirror|
|Begins to replace babbling sounds with jargon (a random combination of consonants and vowels that sounds almost like words)|
|Jabbers loudly and uses a wide variety of pitches|
|Gestures and/or makes sounds to indicate his wants and needs|
|Says his first true word by 10 to 13 months, using the same sounds every time to name an object even if the sounds are not correct (e.g. says “ba ba” for bottle)|
